Dear Hillary,
"It affected me not only because these were my staff members and volunteers, but as a mother, it was just a horrible sense of bewilderment, confusion, outrage, frustration, anger, everything at the same time."
That's what you said yesterday after the hostage situation in one of your New Hampshire campaign offices ended.
In case Democrat primary voters missed it the first time, you also trotted out one of your aides to speak to ABC News anonymously.
"She said, as a mother, she would want to see Chelsea immediately if she were in that situation."
What a self-serving, soccer mom-pandering, political statement. You should be ashamed.
"As a mother."
You couldn't resist yet another round of unseemly gender politics. It doesn't matter that you're a mother. It wouldn't if you were a father, or childless. Because you're a mother does not provide you with the skill or temperament to withstand a hostage negotiation, even a brief one. It certainly did not equip you with the emotional capacity to avoid sounding like you needed a sedative and a seat opposite Dr. Phil.
You did not have a day in the life of Golda Meir yesterday. Guess what? Prime Minister Meir never married. It certainly didn't prevent her from leading Israel during Operation Wrath of God and the Yom Kippur War.
In a few hours, a mentally ill man who had been drinking for 48 hours with road flares duct-tapped to his body created a "horrible sense of bewilderment, confusion, outrage, frustration, anger, everything at the same time" for you. Just wait until you have to confront al-Qaeda. Or Iran. Or Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and other fanatics.
If you're elected president and our country is the victim of another September 11, 2001-style attack, I'm sure all Americans will be reassured when you address our country from the Oval Office "as a mother." Because that's certainly a quality Americans need in a Commander-In-Chief while we're fighting a global war against Islamofascism.
As a son,
Chris
